SCREENINGS

Yayoi Kusama is one of the world's best-selling female artists who has had to overcome imaginable obstacles to bring her radical artistic vision to the world stage. For decades, she has pushed the boundaries with her work, which has often alienated her from other artists as well as the powerful of the art world. Kusama has always been bullied and has not been spoiled by life. She grew up in a dysfunctional family in post-World War II Japan, where her creative ambitions were stifled. In a society where art was dominated by sexism and racism. In a culture where mental illness is a matter of great shame. At the same time, she has always been unreservedly committed to making art, even now, in her early 90s.

Kusama has withstood all odds and created an artistic legacy that includes paintings, sculptures, action art, poetry and fiction. Now with six decades of work behind her, people from all over the world come to admire her famous installation “Infinity Mirrored Rooms”. At the same time, Kusama continues her daily creative activities.

Art lover Taivi Koitla will make an introduction to the film screenings.
