SCREENINGS

Raised in a poor family in Bonito, Italy, Salvatore Ferragamo began his shoemaking career when he was barely a teenager. When he immigrated to America in 1915 at the age of 16, he had no idea that his work would soon shape the glamor of Hollywood's silent era. Ferragamo created shoes for iconic films (such as The Thief of Baghdad and The Ten Commandments) and stars such as Gloria Swanson, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, many of whom became his friends. He also designed shoes for iconic women such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth and Ingrid Bergman.

Celebrities such as Martin Scorsese, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Grace Coddington and the children and grandchildren of the shoemaker also speak in the film "Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams" directed by Luca Guadagnino. This is a film about a man whose craftsmanship made him the shoemaker of the stars, the architect of Hollywood magic, and whose influence is still felt in the worlds of culture, fashion and art.
