SCREENINGS

Helmut Newton was a true photography superstar. With her bold and eye-catching photos, she created a new, sometimes provocative way of portraying women.

On the occasion of Newton's 100th birthday, the well-known author, journalist and director Gero von Boehm tells the touching life story of the photographer in his documentary film HELMUT NEWTON - THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and takes a look at Newton's work in a very unique way.

In the 1970s, Helmut Newton ushered in a new era with his avant-garde photographs. Never before had women been depicted in such poses in glamor and fashion magazines and fashion advertisements. In Newton's photos, women posed with hugely aggressive dogs, on eerily lit night streets, with knives and in men's clothing.

In the film, some of the women who came into contact with the photographer from the world of film and fashion can speak: Charlotte Rampling, Isabella Rossellini, Grace Jones, Anna Wintour, Marianne Faithfull, Hanna Schygulla, Claudia Schiffer, Nadja Auermann, Sylvia Gobbel, Carla Sozzani, Arja Toyryla - and of course her wife June Newton.

Gero von Boehm's entertaining documentary travels with Helmut Newton and "his" women through the various stages of the photographer's extraordinary, sometimes dramatic life, showing his work and his world.

Photographer Krõõt Tarkmeel will make an introduction to the film screenings.
